Please click HERE to read the EMT student handbook. | Emergency Medical Technician - One Year Certificate Program TVCC offers a One Year Emergency Medical Technician Certificate program. This program provides students with the first year of a two-year degree leading to becoming a paramedic and is designed to articulate with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Emergency Medical Technology-Paramedic or a baccalaureate degree in Emergency Medical Services. Specific courses within the program are dependent upon enrollment. The following courses are part of the One Year EMT Certificate program and will offered if enrollment is sufficient. Intro to EMS Services - EMT 175 Provides an intro to the emergency medical services (EMS) system. Includes the history and evolution of EMS; the organization, funding, and role of ambulance and rescue services in medical care; EMS personnel roles, training, and responsibilities; evaluation and planning for EMS services and personnel; disaster response; leadership and career development issues. EMT Rescue - EMT 169 Addresses important aspects of rescue and patient extrication for emergency services personnel. Includes personal safety, control and management of the accident scene. Discusses the special needs of the accident trauma patient. Emergency Communications - EMT 170 Introduces emergency medical services (EMS) personnel to telecommunications and transportation of the sick and injured. Crisis Intervention – CJ 203 An overview of the techniques and approaches to crisis intervention for entry level emergency medical personnel and criminal justice professionals. Covers initial intervention, diffusing and assessment, resolution and/or referral with emphasis on safety. Includes personal effectiveness, recognition of threat levels, voluntary compliance, verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening and mediation. |
