"Where Oregon Begins"
Ontario lies along the Snake River at the Idaho border and is the eastern gateway to Oregon from Interstate 84. It is the hub of a small, rural agricultural community and happens to be the largest city in Malheur County, with a population of about 11,000 residents. Ontario is located at the very west end of the Treasure Valley and is approximately halfway between Portland and Salt Lake City. Ontario has five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The principal industries for Ontario and Malheur County are agriculture, livestock, food production, and recreation, including some prime fishing in the area rivers and reservoirs. The city boasts a cultural center featuring historical and ethnic exhibits of the local area, an 18-hole golf course, an aquatic center, bowling alley, a multiplex cinema and several fitness centers. Accomodations include motels, hotels, bed and breakfast inns, and campgrounds and RV parks. Dining choices include Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Italian, and American from the area restaurants.
